Netherlands (Den Helder) Full time

Safety & Compliance Officer - Fulltime

Do you want to contribute directly to a unique 24/7 Search and Rescue operation for the Netherlands Coast Guard, working in a small, highly professional team with short lines and real operational impact? At Bristow Netherlands, Safety and Compliance sits at the heart of everything we do, from flight operations and ground operations to CAMO and Part-145 maintenance.

We are looking for a Safety & Compliance Officer who will strengthen our Safety Management System (SMS) and Compliance Monitoring System (CMS) and provide continuity as deputy for our Safety Manager and Compliance Monitoring Manager when formally delegated.

About Bristow Netherlands

Bristow Netherlands provides 24/7 services for the Netherlands Coast Guard, including Search and Rescue (SAR), from our operating bases in Den Helder and Midden-Zeeland. We operate under EASA approvals (AOC, SPO, Part-CAMO and Part-145) and continuously improve our systems to keep our people, our passengers and the public safe.

Why this role matters

  • You help shape and sustain a strong Just Culture and proactive reporting environment in a high-consequence operational context.
  • You translate data into insight: trends, investigations, audit results and risk assessments that drive practical improvements.
  • You work across disciplines (ops, training, ground, CAMO and Part-145) with direct access to decision-makers.

Key responsibilities

Safety Management (SMS) - under direction of the Safety Manager:

  • Support occurrence and hazard reporting workflows in SM365 (screening, completeness checks, follow-up).
  • Support internal investigations and analyses (root causes and contributing factors) as authorised, including action tracking and effectiveness review.
  • Support risk assessments and Management of Change (MoC) activities, including documentation quality checks and follow-up of outputs.
  • Support safety promotion activities (briefings, safety communications, learning from events).
  • Coordinate and support external safety reporting obligations as applicable (e.g., MOR/ECCAIRS) under SM/CMM direction.

Compliance Monitoring (CMS) - under direction of the Compliance Monitoring Manager:

  • Prepare, execute and report internal audits/inspections in accordance with the audit programme.
  • Support the management and follow-up of non-compliance findings (containment, corrective and preventive actions) and verification of closure evidence.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and support impact assessments and implementation planning.
  • Maintain traceable and controlled records for safety and compliance activities.

Continuity / deputy duties (when formally delegated):

  • Act as alternate point of contact for the competent authority when formally delegated by the SM or CMM.
  • Support continuity of day-to-day SMS/CMS activities during absence of the SM/CMM or where functional independence is required.
  • Escalate time-critical issues to the Accountable Manager, SM and/or CMM without undue delay and ensure decisions and actions are recorded.

What we are looking for

Experience and knowledge

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant aviation experience.
  • Working knowledge of SMS and CMS requirements applicable to Flight Operations, Ground Operations, CAMO and Part-145.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and standards and the ability to interpret requirements and translate them into practical actions.
  • Experience with management systems, assurance activities, audits and/or investigations (training is a plus).
  • Understanding of hazard identification, occurrence reporting processes and safety risk management principles.
  • You must have the right to live and work in the Netherlands.

Competencies

  • Professional integrity and the ability to maintain impartiality and provide objective support.
  • Strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a strong advantage).
  • Analytical mindset: able to identify patterns, ask critical questions and drive meaningful follow-up.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, operational environment with short lines and multiple stakeholders.

Education and screening

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience in a relevant domain.
  • You must be able to pass the Dutch enhanced security screening requirements.

What we offer

A mission-driven role supporting a unique Netherlands Coast Guard SAR operation with clear societal impact.

A small, experienced team with short decision lines and direct collaboration with key personnel.

A modern management system with SM365 (IQSMS) tooling and a strong focus on practical, evidence-based improvement.

Structured onboarding and role-appropriate SMS/CMS training to maintain competence aligned with the company training cycle.

Competitive employment conditions, including:

  • A gross annual base salary ranging from EUR 54,000 to EUR 70,000 (depending on experience),
  • 8% holiday allowance,
  • 25 days of annual leave,
  • An additional allowance when formally appointed in the deputy function.
