Safety Assistant 

Location: Vicksburg Plant 
Department: Operations/Production 
Reports To: Safety Manager 

Job Summary 

The Safety Assistant supports the Safety Manager in administering, monitoring, and enforcing workplace safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment for all team members. This position plays a key role in promoting a strong safety culture by ensuring employees adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while actively identifying and mitigating workplace hazards. 

 

Essential Functions 

  • Support the implementation and enforcement of plant safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with company standards 

  • Monitor production and facility areas to ensure team members are working safely and in compliance with safety rules 

  • Conduct routine safety observations, audits, and inspections; document findings and corrective actions 

  • Assist with incident, injury, and near-miss investigations, including documentation and follow-up actions 

  • Support safety training initiatives, including new hire orientation, refresher training, and safety meetings 

  • Assist with maintaining OSHA logs, safety records, and required documentation 

  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and escalate non-compliance as needed 

  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and supervision to address unsafe conditions and behaviors 

  • Support emergency response activities, drills, and preparedness initiatives 

  • Communicate safety concerns, trends, and observations to the Safety Manager 

 

Non-Essential Functions 

  • Assist with company-wide safety initiatives and campaigns 

  • Support regulatory inspections and audits as needed 

  • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED required 

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in manufacturing, food processing, or industrial safety preferred 

  • Basic knowledge of workplace safety principles 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Working knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and regulatory concepts 

  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization 

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation 

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion 

 

Physical Demands 

  • Frequent walking, standing, and climbing throughout production and facility areas 

  • Ability to bend, reach, and use hands for inspections and documentation 

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Combination of office and production floor environments 

  • Exposure to cold, wet, noisy conditions, moving machinery, and industrial equipment 

  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
