Job Summary: You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) Office (Code106), Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division (Code 106.2), Industrial Health Branch (Code 106.21) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major Duties:

• You will monitor, interpret, and seek resolution for matters pertaining to assigned OSH program(s), primarily Workplace Monitoring and Gas Free Engineer in training/confined space.
• You will develop sampling plans and conduct workplace exposure monitoring to ascertain employee exposures to various chemical, biological, and physical stressors.
• You will provide on-site determinations/ measurements of hazards and specify corrective actions to render workplaces safe.
• You will conduct field operations, either independent or under the cognizance of Industrial Hygienist(s) Gas Free Engineer(s), to determine employee exposure and enforce control measures.
• You will review and implement local, Navy, and Federal instructions and regulations related to the workplace monitoring and assigned OSHE programs.
• You will serve as a technical advisor in the development policies and procedures related to the workplace monitoring and Occupational Health Programs.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience conducting exposure monitoring to determine employee exposures. Experience using quantitative measurement instrumentation, including air sampling instrumentation used to quantify employee exposures. Experience performing surveillances and correcting deficiencies that affect overall worker health. Experience interpreting and enforcing federal, navy, and local regulations and policies. Experience preparing and presenting findings and recommendations, providing oversight to drive change. Experience applying Industrial Hygiene program, safety, health, and fire protection regulations, standards, principles, practices, techniques (example programs could include, but not be limited to Respiratory Protection, Ventilation, Confined Space, Hearing Conservation, Asbestos, etc.).
