Salary Range: $90925 - $118204 Per Year

Job Summary: The incumbent will be required to report to a U.S. Geological Survey government facility within the USGS Northeast Region, where sufficient occupational space is available. More information on USGS Northeast Region offices can be found here. If the agreed upon location results in the relocation of the selectee, the travel, transportation, and relocation expenses are not authorized. Major Duties:

  • As a Safety and Health Occupational Health Manager within the Office of the Regional Director, Northeast Region, some of your specific duties will include: - Serve as the primary safety and emergency management contact for the Regional Director, providing guidance and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations across all field locations. - Direct and support Collateral Duty Safety Program Coordinators, evaluate hazardous activities, and deliver specialized safety training for diverse environments, including labs, fieldwork, and high-risk operations. - Implement and monitor Bureau and DOI safety programs, conduct audits, review hazard analyses, and lead complex technical safety reviews to ensure compliance and protect employee health. - Coordinate emergency preparedness and continuity plans, participate in national-level exercises, and perform Safety Officer duties during major incidents using Incident Command System protocols. - Develop safety standards and guidelines, report regional safety performance, and collaborate on committees to enhance occupational health programs and mitigate risks through proactive strategies. Qualifications: For GS-13: Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-13 level: Possess one year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-12 level experience may include: Recommending, coordinating, and providing safety training for staff within their area of responsibility. Maintaining and updating applicable safety guidelines, manuals, plans, and policy documents for their organizational unit, ensuring consistency with applicable regulatory and/or policy requirements. Serving as their organization's safety expert. Alerting organizational leadership to hazardous conditions and following up to assure that conditions have been abated. Making effective use of data systems to track incidents and investigates accidents as appropriate. Developing and coordinating novel or innovative safety awareness and promotion activities. Representing the organizational unit in wider discussions and activities related to occupational safety. Conducting safety inspections including offices, laboratories, vehicles, shops, storage spaces, and other facilities and equipment. Tracks and manages the abatement process.
