Rotoflow, An Air Products Business, may be the place for you! We are looking for a Product Application Engineer to support our turbomachinery manufacturing at our Rotoflow HQ in Bethlehem, PA.

In this role, you will serve as a key technical interface between customers, sales, proposal management, and internal engineering teams and translate customer requirements into technically sound, competitive, and commercially viable engineered solutions. You will also support the full pre-sale and proposal lifecycle by providing technical expertise, developing accurate scopes of supply, assessing system performance, and supporting technical negotiations.

Close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, aerodynamic, systems, R&D, and manufacturing) is essential to ensure proposed solutions align with product capabilities, quality standards, and business objectives. Regular customer interaction and travel are required to support meetings, presentations, and technical discussions.

Rotoflow is a full-service turbomachinery OEM - providing a wide-range of new equipment solutions and aftermarket services to our customers globally. For over 75 years, Rotoflow has designed and manufactured both standard and custom-engineered cryogenic and warm gas centrifugal turbomachinery used in market segments such as industrial gases, petrochemicals, and hydrocarbons. Products include compressor loaded turbo-expanders, generator-loaded power recovery expanders, and low-cost dissipative expanders. We offer new equipment designs, rerates, upgrades and repair along with field services, engineering evaluations, reliability, troubleshooting, training, remote diagnostics/data monitoring, shop services, and new equipment replacements for all types of centrifugal and reciprocating equipment. Our customers are served globally through regional service centers supported by both regional and centralized execution teams.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Sales & Customer Support

  • Serve as a technical advisor to Sales and Commercial teams during pre-sale activities.
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, and negotiations to clarify specifications and address technical questions.
  • Deliver technical presentations and product training to customers and internal sales teams.
  • Support customer installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities as required.

Proposal Development & Scope Definition

  • Develop accurate, compelling technical proposals in support of commercial bids.
  • Perform preliminary sizing, feasibility studies, and system evaluations during RFQ and bid phases.
  • Review customer specifications and prepare engineering clarifications, identifying deviations, risks, and optimization opportunities.
  • Define scope of supply, equipment configuration options, and budget inputs in collaboration with proposal and engineering teams.
  • Assess system performance, equipment suitability, and economic considerations throughout the bid process.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary technical liaison between customer-facing teams and internal engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, aerodynamic, systems, R&D, and manufacturing teams to validate proposed solutions.
  • Lead or participate in internal technical review sessions to ensure alignment with product standards and internal capabilities.
  • Support the handover of awarded technical contracts to execution and project teams.

Product Knowledge & Documentation

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of rotating equipment and related systems.
  • Apply applicable industry standards, internal product guidelines, and quality policies.
  • Maintain technical documentation, drawings, datasheets, and proposal-related materials.
  • Contribute to product and solution improvements through feedback from customer and field experience.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Experience with turbomachinery or engineered rotating equipment/centrifugal systems.
  • Experience with technical solution development such as machinery and component selection, revamps, upgrades.
  • Experience interfacing with Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) firms and ability to review detailed specifications and compile offerings including datasheets, scope summaries and deviation lists.

Differentiating Experience

  • Familiarity with proposal development and technical negotiations.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards (e.g., API, ASME).
  • Proficiency with CAD or engineering analysis tools.
  • Background in machine repair and refurbishments.
  • Knowledge of packaged accessory systems (lubrication and seal gas).
  • Rotordynamic torsional and lateral analysis experience.
  • Fluid, magnetic, and gas bearing design or analysis experience.
  • Centrifugal compressor and expander aerodynamic stage design.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and mechanical troubleshooting.

Minimum Education and Hiring Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in application engineering, product design, process engineering, or technical sales support.
  • Min 5 years experience supporting turbomachinery or rotating equipment.
  • Professional proficiency in the English language.

Working Conditions

  • Work location: Rotoflow HQ, manufacturing facility, and testing lab in Bethlehem, PA.
  • Typical travel will be 10%, up to 25% on rare occasion, including domestic and occasional international travel to support customer meetings, site visits, and technical presentations.
  • Hybrid work schedules are available.
