Job Summary

Iron Mountain is seeking a detail-oriented Release of Information Specialist to join our Health Information Management team.

In this role, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing all requests for protected health information, ensuring strict compliance with legal, regulatory, and company privacy standards.

The Health Information Management team is dedicated to safeguarding sensitive patient data while providing timely access to authorized requestors.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Process Information Requests: Locate, retrieve, and reproduce requested Protected Health Information (PHI) in a timely and efficient manner according to established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and internal policies.

  • Ensure Privacy and Compliance: Safeguard patient privacy by verifying requestor identity and release requirements in strict accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines, federal and state statutes, and Iron Mountain policy.

  • Manage Request Workflow: Accurately enter pertinent data into the release of information tracking application, generate necessary documentation (cover letters, invoices, pre-payment notices), process payments, and finalize the request upon completion.

What You’ll Bring

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable experience working with Protected Health Information (PHI) or in a related Health Information Management field.

  • Strong knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines and state/federal regulations pertaining to the release of information.

  • Proven ability in utilizing multiple computer systems simultaneously while maintaining high standards for data entry accuracy and quality control.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certification or education in health information is a plus.
