Mental Health Technician Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with performing activities of daily living; interacts directly with patients, attends to patient needs and helps in behavioral crisis intervention as needed.
- Assist in providing therapeutic patient care, in group or one-to-one settings.
- Ensures the safety and accurate location of patients at all times, including strict adherence to rounding standards, rounding documentation and responsibility for overall milieu management.
- Monitors safety of patients, visitors, and environment, including infection control standards, daily environmental rounds for safety, sanitation, codes, door locks and alarms.
- Actively performs observes/monitors and records patient behavior and activities including meals and monitoring food intake and output. Completes documentation related to the daily treatment progress notes as required within the medical record.
- Completes and records patient vitals, including orthostatic vitals, as directed by nursing leadership.
- Immediately reports any changes in patient condition or safety to the treatment team.
- Ensures safe transport and transition of patients to and from scheduled program activities including groups, cafeteria, and outdoor time.
- Orients and educates patients upon admission and document as required, completing patient belongings search and documenting patient belongings.
- Provides float coverage support to all inpatient levels of care as required.
Registered Nurse Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Implement patient care.
Assess patients both physically and mentally.
Collaborate with Psychiatrist, Therapist, Dietitians, and other members of our clinical team to develop appropriate plans of care.
Communicate with patients and their families.
Administer medication.
Additional Job Description:
Mental Health Technician Education/Training Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or 4-years related experience.
Be eighteen (18) years of age for all units. For Adolescent Units, must be at least 18 years old and at least 2 years older than the oldest resident.
Must possess a current active driver's license and be in good standing.
Float coverage support to residential and inpatient levels of care.
Formal training will be provided for the following:
American Heart Association CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 60 days of hire.
Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) trainings within 90 days of hire.
Supervised Traineeship Program – 160-hour requirement.
Medication Administration Certification – within 90 days of hire
Registered Nurse Education/Training Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment. License must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment.
American Health Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Bi-annual re-certification is required.
Formal training in management of the aggressive patient is required within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents and adults is preferred.
At the Hospital’s discretion, may be required to hold a qualified medical professional (QMP) designation. Must be deemed competent to serve as a QMP, as outlined in the Medical Staff bylaws of Rogers Memorial Hospital. This designation is evaluated and potentially renewed at least annually, based on results of the QMP job competency.
Employees at the Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs licensed under HFS §40 are required to have either training in psychiatric nursing, including training in work with children with mental health disorders, or one (1) year of experience working in a clinical setting with these children.
