SUMMARY: Maintains County road signs and other traffic control devices and markings in good condition.
The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Installs and repairs county signs. Orders signs from sign makers and maintain a sign inventory.
Continually inspects county traffic control signs and devices to insure they meet MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) requirements.
Makes barricades and installs and repairs barricades and delineators.
Uses hydraulic auger, electric generator, winch, cutting torch and post hole digger in removal, repair and installation of signs and devices.
Drives pick-up truck to job sites.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Less than high school education with demonstrated ability to read and write, one year of work experience is preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License, a class C minimum, which allows operation of vehicles being used.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn state requirements for road sign markings.
Extensive knowledge of the safe operation of equipment used and of provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of motorized equipment.
Sufficient skills to operate equipment effectively and safely. Ability to service and make minor repairs on equipment and to know safety standards and prevent hazards.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and other department personnel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
