We’re seeking an experienced Road and Bridge Supervisor to oversee daily operations of maintenance crews handling both routine and emergency work. In this role, you’ll coordinate equipment and resources, ensure safety compliance, and keep projects on schedule.

You’ll partner with leadership on budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and employee development while fostering a strong safety culture and high-performing team.

About This Role

  • Direct and schedule unit work activities
  • Establishe and monitor employee performance standards
  • Establish proper safety and maintenance of traffic standards and monitors to ensure compliance with county/state and OSHA regulations
  • Utilize computerized programs for scheduling and time management
  • Maintain, review and summarize daily work activity logs
  • Assist with establishing workload priorities to meet deadlines
  • Assist with monitoring, analyzing/assessing effectiveness and efficiency of all aspects of work performed
  • Interface with other business units and officials
  • Instruct crews in proper and safe utilization of equipment
  • Coordinate the use of external resources and vendors
  • Coordinate and ensure appropriate supply of work materials; tracks and maintains inventories
  • Participate in the hiring process, handle employee relations issues, prepare and conduct employee performance reviews, ensure training and development of assigned staff
  • Participate in staffing and business planning efforts. Provide input and assists with work unit budget, prepares and presents activity reports and technical information, and maintains records and vital operations information
  • Provide support to other areas and supervision as required, interacts with citizens and clients
  • Assign work to crews during emergency operations

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. *On-Call Required

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent

  • Four (4) years of job related field

  • -AND- One (1) year of supervisory experience

  • -OR- A two (2) year associate's degree AND two (2) years of job related experience

  • -OR- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of job related experience

  • The ability to acquire a Class "B" CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months at the time of hire. Paid for by Sarasota County!

  • A valid Florida Driver License at the time of hire

Physical Demands: May occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $28.86/ hour

Potential higher pay for those with multiple years of experience
