As a RN – Mother Baby at MercyOne, you will serve as a clinician, team member, and professional and practices under these roles according to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (2004). The Registered Professional Nurse is accountable for the delivery of evidence-based, safe, efficient and family centered care in order to achieve the Mission of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center and the Vision of Patient Care Services.

• Practice within the legal scope of a Registered Professional Nurse as outlined in the Iowa Nurse Practice Act (2006); retains accountability for one’s own nursing practice.
• Responsible for planning, assessing, intervening, co-coordinating and providing direct patient care by utilizing critical thinking skills.
• Communicates with physicians, ancillary care-givers, patients and families regarding the patient’s plan of care.
• Fulfill the responsibility of holistic (body, mind and spirit) nursing care based on the mission, vision and values of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center.
• Performs assessments including physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs.

Schedule:

• 7:00 pm – 7:30 am; every third weekend and holiday rotation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Associate degree in nursing required

2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

3. Current Iowa RN license, (current Illinois (IL) license if working in IL) required.

4. Labor/Delivery experience preferred.

5. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.

6. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.

7. PALS certification required within one year of hire date.

8. NRP required within 6 months of hire.

9. EFM certification preferred. If not certified, required within one year of starting Labor and Delivery orientation.

10. Basic computer skills required.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally competent care for women, newborns, and pediatric patients. Utilizes evidence-based practice and critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based care. Manages a diverse patient population across labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery, pediatrics, and/or pediatric intensive care, with varying levels of acuity. Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Technicians/Assistants, and other team members, while ensuring clear communication with physicians, families, and the interdisciplinary team. Adheres to MercyOne’s performance expectations and upholds the Mission, Vision, and Values of MercyOne.
