J33 is a unique multidisciplinary unit which is divided into three sections. It is a fast-paced area to work with a high volume of patient turnover. This allows the nursing staff the ability to care for a variety of patient populations which have been treated with innovative procedures. The Cardiovascular Short Stay Unit is a 15-bed outpatient unit specializing in recovery of patients undergoing cardiac or vascular procedures requiring less than 23 hours. Patients in this unit can be monitored by either bedside or remote cardiac telemetry. The Cardiovascular Short Stay Unit receives its patient population from the Cardiac Cath Lab and the Electrophysiology Lab.
A caregiver in this position works 36 hours per week with three 12-hour shifts (7:00 a.m. -- 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. -- 7:30 a.m.), rotating every six weeks. Occasional 9:00 a.m. -- 9:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. -- 11:00 p.m. shifts may be needed based on census, and there is a Saturday rotation every six weeks.
The unit is typically closed when a holiday falls on a Monday, and during weekday holidays no new surgeries are scheduled; only existing patients are completed before the unit closes.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Educate patients and their families.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN, BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
One year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
