The 5 South Observation Unit supports both the Emergency Department and Telemetry units by caring for low‑acuity patients who require short‑term monitoring to determine if inpatient admission is necessary. This unit is ideal for nurses who thrive in fast‑paced clinical environments and enjoy working collaboratively across multiple specialties.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Observation Unit team. This role involves rapid assessment, patient monitoring, and coordination of care for individuals under observation status. Nurses with backgrounds in Telemetry, Emergency Department (ED), intermediate care, or ambulatory care will excel in this setting.

Job Duties

In this dynamic and team‑driven environment, the Registered Nurse will perform comprehensive patient assessments, provide continuous monitoring, and deliver timely interventions for patients placed in observation. The RN will collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to determine patient disposition, ensure accurate documentation, and provide evidence‑based nursing care aligned with unit protocols. Additional responsibilities include supporting patient education, participating in discharge planning, and maintaining a safe, organized, and patient‑centered care environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Active Kentucky RN license

BCLS certification (training available)

ACLS certification (training available)

NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred
