Akron General’s 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer patients, trains caregivers to give therapy, and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. This RN position is part of Cleveland Clinic Akron General's Weekend Flex Option 12 Program and will require you to work two 12-hour shifts per weekend. “Flex Option Twelve” employees will be paid eighteen (18) hours for each twelve (12) hour weekend shift worked. This schedule allows caregivers to enjoy personal time during the week with family and friends and take care of any errands that will not interfere with a typical schedule.

A caregiver in this position works weekend nights Saturday/Sunday from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., including holidays that fall on a weekend. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

• Provide direct nursing care.  

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population.  

• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.   

• Develop and update goals, involve patients and families in developing plans of care, coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.   

• Provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.   

• Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process.  

• Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.   

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (ADN or BSN program) 

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
