Hello Future, Risk Manager As a Risk Manager within FNB Personal & Private Chief Operating Office (COO), you will be part of a team where experts come together to enable excellence.
In this role, you will lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of operational risks across the P&P COO, ensuring alignment with FirstRand Group Risk frameworks and regulatory requirements, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement, customer experience and operational excellence.
In this role, you will own the implementation and monitoring of risk tools, drive a proactive risk culture, and provide expert guidance on risk mitigation strategies. Furthermore, you will collaborate across business units and manage several operational risk sub-types.
Operational Risk Management & Compliance
- Identify and assess operational risks across business processes (including data), projects, and third-party engagements.
- Provide expert guidance on risk mitigation strategies aligned with FirstRand’s operational risk management frameworks and policies.
- Implement and monitor operational risk control plans, focusing on key controls and risk themes.
- Conduct risk assessments (including PRCIA) and ensure comprehensive documentation of risk profiles and mitigation actions.
- Conduct risk reviews of new products, initiatives, and portfolios.
- Track and report progress against the operational risk strategy, highlighting key risks, trends, and emerging threats.
Monitoring, Reporting & Assurance
- Prepare clear and concise operational risk reports for governance forums, including KRIs, risk appetite metrics, and control effectiveness.
- Prepare risk dashboards, reports, and presentations for risk committees and senior management.
- Drive a combined assurance approach by collaborating with line management, internal audit, and specialist risk functions.
- Monitor implementation of corrective actions and escalate unresolved risk issues through appropriate governance structures.
- Conduct control testing activities, aligning to key and critical controls identified in the business.
- Conduct control validations and verification activities to ensure robust second line oversight of audit findings management, with the added focus of proactively avoiding repeat audit findings.
Business Engagement & Risk Advisory
- Build strong relationships with business stakeholders to understand strategic objectives, operational drivers, and risk concerns.
- Support business units in identifying risks in new products, processes, and outsourcing arrangements.
- Facilitate the design and implementation of risk management processes that are practical and aligned to business needs.
- Provide feedback and training to enhance risk awareness and embed a proactive risk culture.
Process Improvement & Cost Control
- Identify process inefficiencies and design flaws that contribute to operational risk.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce costs and enhance control effectiveness.
- Ensure all key processes are documented with appropriate controls and regularly reviewed.
Business Continuity & Resilience
- ·Ensure business continuity plans are aligned with the enterprise strategy, regularly tested, and updated.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure resilience against operational disruptions and emerging risks.
Collaboration & Development
- Foster a culture of teamwork, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in personal and professional development activities to enhance risk management capabilities.
- Contribute to innovation by identifying flexible and efficient risk solutions tailored to business needs.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Data Science, or related field.
- Professional certification advantageous (CRM Prac, CRISC, CISA, etc.).
Skills and Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 4-5 years’ experience in Risk Management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in risk management systems, data analytics, process mapping and reporting tools.
- Previous working experience in cross-functional environments.
