The opportunity:
We are currently looking to recruit a Risk Engineer to join our European Operations (EO) Team in Spain- this is your chance to develop your career in an exciting environment where anything is possible. Are you ready to grow your career with us?

As Risk Engineer for QBE you will develop and deliver Risk Solutions services for QBE's European Business (predominantly Spain)

You will be responsible for providing risk engineering technical support and management services, that assist effective underwriting decisions and support customers with understanding and managing their risks effectively, to minimise the frequency and exposure of potential losses and improve the overall quality of the risk. You will provide input and support to the Head of Risk Solutions in implementing the overall strategy of the EO Risk Solutions practice, product, and services.


Your new role:

• Conduct complex property, power, and liability risk engineering site assessments, producing technical reports and recommendations to identify exposures and deliver best‑practice risk mitigation solutions.
• Perform desktop reviews and provide technical advice based on broker and other carriers’ reports.
• Deliver risk engineering services for key accounts by assessing existing risk management and loss prevention controls and supporting the implementation of industry best‑practice strategies.
• Contribute to thought leadership through risk management publications, presentations, and training focused on current and emerging risks.
• Coordinate risk engineering activities with internal colleagues and external third‑party risk engineering providers.

Strategy and Planning
• Demonstrate awareness and understanding of Risk Solutions (RS) strategy, business plans, and objectives.
• Manage a portfolio of key customer accounts, developing customer‑specific risk management strategies and delivering risk management services (RMS).
• Support the delivery of operational plans and RMS within agreed service levels.
• Contribute to technology solutions and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the RMS offering.
• Plan and manage travel to ensure timely and cost‑effective delivery of RMS.

Policy, Process, and Procedures
• Comply with and support the development and maintenance of risk management policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
• Promote and support relevant technical documents, procedures, guidelines, and publications with underwriters and customers.
• Perform quality control reviews to ensure RMS quality and compliance with technical and reporting requirements.
• Identify and implement improvements to RMS and processes to ensure efficiency and alignment with underwriting guidelines and best‑practice risk management.
• Act as a subject matter expert in business improvement initiatives, projects, committees, and working groups.

Environmental Awareness / Customer Focus
• Support product growth by delivering portfolio RMS and developing tailored customer risk solutions in collaboration with Distribution, Product, and brokers.
• Promote the RS brand internally and externally, enhancing market awareness of QBE’s risk management capabilities.
• Provide customers, brokers, external providers, and employees with insights into emerging risks and mitigation strategies through publications, presentations, and training.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with underwriters, brokers, and customers to deliver value and enable future service provision.
• Promote and utilise the risk management resource library.

Technical Performance
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and industry codes to support technical guideline development.
• Support the creation of risk management publications, training, presentations, and technical materials.
• Contribute to the development of technical risk management capabilities across Underwriting, Product, and outsourced providers.
• Provide technical risk management advice and support to stakeholders.
• Mentor, train, and support internal risk engineers, underwriters, and external providers to strengthen technical skills and risk engineering capabilities.


About you :

• Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to deliver clear, concise, and high‑quality technical risk engineering reports.
• Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, brokers, underwriters, and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, influencing, negotiation, and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation.
• Demonstrated project management and coordination skills, including leading complex risk engineering programmes for large and demanding accounts.
• Deep technical knowledge of risk management, loss prevention, business continuity planning, and best‑practice mitigation strategies.
• Experience supporting and leading key accounts, with a track record of successfully implementing new initiatives and improvements.
• Strong analytical capability to interpret underwriting, exposure, and risk data to support informed and proactive risk management decisions.

Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience providing insurance risk engineering services.
• Comprehensive understanding of insurance products and processes, including underwriting, pricing, claims, and risk selection.
• Solid understanding of exposure drivers, claims trends, hazards, controls, and applicable regulations, standards, and industry codes.
• Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Engineering degree or equivalent); Health & Safety and Fire Engineering qualifications are advantageous.
