Risk & Control Manager - Specialist, Control - Asset Management

Role:

Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is an over a trillion-dollar investment management firm entrusted by investors around the globe to help them navigate changing market environments, so they can confidently realize their long-term objectives. 

Based in the First Line of Defense (1LoD), you will be responsible for oversight, reporting and execution of the Risk Event management framework, and assisting control owners within the Asset Management business unit with developing and maintaining a sustainable control framework.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide advisory services on risk event matters and work proactively with business contacts and management to identify and implement effective and efficient solutions.
  • Provide the necessary guidance and oversight to first line business units to ensure adherence with the group non-financial risk initiatives.
  • Perform independent loss event investigations and lessons learnt analysis, document findings in accordance with operational risk management standards.
  • Undertake focused deep dives into new and developing Risk themes.
  • Assists in the identification of vulnerabilities, suggests remediation activities, and works with the business to address gaps and enhancements to plans/strategies/processes/playbooks.
  • Support reporting on the Risk events, identified themes and management actions.
  • Leverage stakeholder management skills to facilitate the resolution of complex, operational errors leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the department.
  • Monitor the status of remediation actions and provide periodic updates to applicable stakeholders.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to drive to execution through strong project management and prioritisation skills. 
  • Adept at and with a proven track record of working across multiple areas of businesses and functions.
  • Ability to assess risk, identify and communicate solutions, and drive change.
  • Dynamic relationship building and partnership skills; a strong collaborator across multiple groups and stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability to develop materials for an Executive and Risk and Audit audience as well as regulators.
  • Demonstrated track record of operating independently on multiple priorities with minimal oversight.
  • Global outlook with sensitivity and awareness of social and cultural differences.
  • Strong situational awareness and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and asset management practices.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory, compliance and legal environment within the Asset Management industry. 

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years in financial services, consulting, operational risk management or audit with a demonstrated track record of operational risk management.
  • Experience working in an Asset Management or Asset Servicing organisation.
