One World Observatory | Positioned at the top of One World Trade Center—the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere—on levels 100, 101, and 102, One World Observatory provides guests with unique, panoramic views of New York City, its most iconic sites, and surrounding waters from 1,250 feet. A customized guest experience complements the seemingly endless views—evoking feelings of the City’s signature pride, hope and determination (including special interactive experiences and dining options, plus a sit-down restaurant). THE ROLE

The Restaurant Host/Hostess is responsible for creating a welcoming first impression for all guests. This role ensures smooth guest flow by greeting and seating guests in a timely and efficient manner, coordinating reservations, and maintaining an organized host station.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Practice safe work habits and follow all safety policies and procedures and regulations
  • Warmly and graciously greet all guests upon arrival
  • Provide guidance to guests at One World Observatory inclusive of dining options and general New York City information
  • Utilize electronic table management system to monitor dining room and guest flow, maximize table usage, and minimize customer wait times
  • Explain the restaurant concept to guests
  • Record guest names and number of people in party when immediate seating is unavailable
  • Be knowledgeable about the floor plan, server station assignments, and table numbers
  • Provide guests with estimated wait times
  • Always maintain a professional, courteous attitude when confronted with hostile or impatient guests
  • Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible
  • Seat guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations
  • Offer guests menus and inform them of their server’s name
  • Inspect tables for proper presentation and completeness
  • Relay messages to servers and bus-persons as needed
  • Relay guest comments or suggestions to the manager on duty
  • Maintain supplies at the host stand
  • Clean menus of food and/or stains
  • Keep work area, including storage areas, clean and organized
  • Perform general cleaning and sanitizing tasks to adhere to health and safety standards
  • Attend mandatory meetings
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent - preferred
  • At least one years’ experience in the food and beverage industry
  • ServSafe® or Food Handler’s certification 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Personable, friendly and welcoming
  • Ability to strictly adhere to company uniform standards, including the ability to maintain personal hygiene and a well-groomed appearance per appearance policy at all times
  • Ability to read, speak and write in English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively listen and take direction/instruction
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and guests
  • Excellent knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service standards
  • Fluency in multiple languages
  • Knowledge of electronic reservation systems (preferably OpenTable)
  • Ability to work extended hours and flexible shifts including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and to walk to and from the host stand multiple times while on shift
  • Ability to work independently or as a team during set up and execution of service
  • Willingness and drive to consistently exceed guest expectations
  • Ability to handle challenges, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving as necessary)
  • Ability to lift and transport food and other items weighing up to 15 pounds

COMPENSATION

$20/hour + a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401(k) plan
