The Role:
Blue Owl is seeking a Senior Associate / Vice President to join the Responsible Investing & ESG team. The team works across the firm’s investment platforms to integrate material environmental, social, and governance considerations into the investment lifecycle and to support value creation, risk management, and transparency for investors.
This role will focus on ESG integration & thematic research, governance of ESG processes, and value creation initiatives across the firm’s investment strategies, with a particular focus on private credit investments.
This is an opportunity to work on a small, highly collaborative ESG team embedded within an investment organization, supporting investment teams in evaluating ESG risks and opportunities, advancing the firm’s responsible investing capabilities, and contributing to investment outcomes through a sustainability lens.
The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, investment-minded, and passionate about applying ESG insights to private markets investing, with the ability to operate as a versatile contributor across research, investment diligence, portfolio engagement, and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities:
ESG Integration in Underwriting & Diligence - Collaborate with investment and portfolio management teams to analyze material ESG risks and opportunities, leveraging Blue Owl’s proprietary ESG tools and frameworks. Support the evolution of Blue Owl’s ESG integration tools, frameworks, and analytical methodologies.
ESG Research & Thematic Analysis - Lead or contribute to research on emerging ESG trends and sustainability themes relevant to private markets, such as climate transition risks, regulatory developments, and sector-specific ESG issues. Develop investment-relevant ESG insights that can inform underwriting decisions, portfolio strategy, and market positioning.
Portfolio Monitoring & Engagement - Oversee monitoring of material ESG issues for underlying assets, including counter-party engagement and data collection for reporting as needed.
Tool Deployment & Process Optimization - Ensure consistent use of ESG screening templates, risk matrices, and monitoring protocols. Contribute to the evolution of ESG tools and data systems to enhance decision-making and reporting.
Investor Reporting & Capital Raising Support - Support capital raising efforts as needed, including ESG-related client reporting and communications, diligence requests, and meetings with prospective and existing clients. Provide tailored ESG insights to support fundraising efforts and deepen LP relationships.
Cross-Team Collaboration – Contribute to RI & ESG team’s strategic priorities and other functional responsibilities across underwriting, portfolio management, thought leadership, and client service.
Stewardship & Engagement - Represent Blue Owl in ESG engagements with investees and industry bodies. Develop case studies and success stories to demonstrate value creation.
Qualifications:
Experienced ESG Professional - 4-6 years of experience in ESG, sustainable investing, or sell-side research, preferably with exposure to private markets.
Investment-Led & Commercially Oriented - You are passionate about both markets and sustainability issues and have experience translating ESG considerations into financial model line items. You can identify and demonstrate the impact of material ESG issues on risk-adjusted returns, downside protection, and/or long-term value creation.
Collaborative & Influential - You thrive in a highly collaborative environment and can build trust with internal teams and external stakeholders. You challenge the status quo while remaining open to diverse perspectives.
Strategic & Analytical - You are comfortable setting priorities, executing a research agenda, and problem-solving across complex ESG topics. You bring intellectual curiosity and a global perspective to sustainable investing.
Framework Fluent - You are familiar with ESG and sustainability standards and frameworks such as SASB/ISSB, PRI, TCFD and can apply them effectively across strategies.
Strong academic credentials - advanced degree or CFA preferred
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
Experience with ESG data platforms and analytics tools such as physical climate risk assessments, a plus
The base annual salary range for this New York-based position will be $140,000 to $175,000. Actual salary offered will be based on the candidate’s skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
