Respiratory TherapyOverview of Position:
The Respiratory Care Equipment Assistant will perform non-invasive respiratory care procedures as ordered under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. Additionally, the Respiratory Care Equipment Assistant may perform basic patient care such as EKGs and Phlebotomy. This position will also maintain the inventory of respiratory therapy supplies and equipment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Clean, sterilize, assemble, set up, test, and maintain respiratory therapy supplies and equipment.
2. Maintain inventory of respiratory therapy equipment and arrange for routine maintenance and repairs.
3. Perform routine equipment setup for patient use.
4. Repair, replace or adjust necessary equipment parts.
5. May perform basic Phlebotomy.
6. Conduct basic patient assessments.
7. Performs EKG; the incumbent will demonstrate an understanding of electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmia.
8. May deliver or set up non-invasive equipment such as oximeters or end-tidal CO2 analyzers
9. Follow Respiratory Services and Infection Control policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School graduate or Equivalency required.
2. Currently enrolled in a CoARC approved Respiratory Therapy program.
3. BLS Certification within 30 days of hire.
4. Knowledge of medical terminology.
5. Ability to work well in a team environment.
6. Ability to read, write and explain or describe information to patients/customers and hospital staff.
7. Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
9. Basic computer skills
10. Strong critical thinking skills and ability to troubleshoot
11. Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Works in a hospital environment.
2. Employee has requirements to travel to all floors. May be required to drive to other locations. Answers telephone calls, uses personal computer, other business machines and medical equipment, which require the ability to apply finger dexterity. Individual bends, reaches, pushes, and pulls.
3. Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
5. Required to rotate shifts and regular days off. All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays, and emergency shifts as required.
