The Swinford-Jackson Laboratory in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences is seeking a Research Technician to support daily laboratory operations and assist with experiments investigating the mechanisms of drug craving. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities. Experience with rodent drug self-administration and surgical procedures is highly preferred. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking hands-on research experience prior to pursuing graduate or medical school.
Opportunities to Contribute
Conducts and assists with experiments and technical procedures, including techniques such as immunohistochemistry, qPCR, Western blot, and genotyping by PCR and gel electrophoresis.
Performs animal care, including rodent handling, colony maintenance, breeding, and behavioral experiments.
Coordinates experiment schedules with lab personnel/collaborators.
Collects, records, maintains, and analyzes experimental data while ensuring integrity and compliance with NIH data management guidelines.
Prepares, reviews, and edits data for presentations at lab meetings, conferences, and manuscript publications.
Prepares laboratory reagents and solutions, fabricates or repairs equipment, and monitors maintenance to ensure proper function.
Oversees day-to-day lab operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, organizing safety documents, and performing general cleaning of equipment and workspaces.
Implements and enforces lab protocols and regulations, and compliance with university and IACUC requirement and standards.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:
Experience with rodent handling and/or behavior.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
