Temporary Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. The selected applicant will assist the Feline Research Program with multiple projects involving wild cats and other wildlife in South Texas and possibly other locations. The selected applicant will assist research and duties by students and staff, and overall support of their various activities and needs by the Program. Position is temporary ending May 15, 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collects samples and measurement data from experiments. Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
Collects and compiles data. Computes, quantitates, and extends projections.
Assembles and operates technical equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.

Additional Responsibilities
Assists with overall field work
Conducts and assist with carnivore (ocelot, bobcat, skunks) captures and animal handling
Assist with non-invasive surveys (e.g., scat collection and remote camera traps)
Establishment and checking of remote camera stations
Assists with VHF and GPS telemetry and remote sensing efforts
Crawling through dense brush and rangelands to achieve project objectives
Cares for vehicles and equipment
Assist with other aspects of project activities
Work on some weekends will be required
Minimum Requirements
Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience – Two years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Licensing / Professional Certification – None.
Physical Requirements – Ability to crawl through brush during difficult conditions (heat, humidity, etc.) and to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force.

Other Requirements
Work beyond normal business hours and work on weekends not exceeding 40 hour work week.
This position is located in Kingsville, TX and is not remote.
Some overnight stays at remote or distant locations may be required.
