Position Information

The Research Specialist I, under general supervision performs semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of assignments requiring modification and adaptation to routine procedures. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on the successful completion of tasks assigned.

Responsibilities:

-Technology Deployment & Support: Install, calibrate, and maintain on-farm technologies such as field-based instruments, sensors, weather stations, and drone mapping equipment, ensuring proper function for experimental data collection.

-Data Analysis & Mapping: Collect samples and measurement data from field experiments; compile, review, and summarize data from GPS, yield monitors, and soil sensors; analyze data from GPS, yield monitors, and soil sensors to create spatial-temporal maps, monitor crop health, and optimize management practices.

-Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Repair or upgrade technical equipment, software, and sensors in the field to ensure operational readiness.

Training & Technical Support: Develop and maintain training materials; provide guidance and support to staff, students, and external users on research technologies and data collection protocols.

-Research & Optimization: Collaborate with research teams in conducting trials, monitoring results, and documenting observations; record scientific measurements and contribute to analysis that informs crop yield and management improvements.

-Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of equipment performance, field data, and experimental results; assist in preparation of technical reports, proposals, manuscripts, and grant applications.

Supervision Support: Assist in the oversight of undergraduate and graduate students or technical staff, coordinating the review of research work and ensuring adherence to protocols.

-Coordinates the review of the work of research staff.

-Establish, Install, maintain operate and/or repair research equipment.

-Performs other duties as assigned.

 
Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's Degree
-Four years of related experience.

-Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.

-Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.

-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. others.
