Job Title:

Research Senior Technician

Department:

Engineering | Knowlton School of Architecture Administration-Interim

Professor Rachel Kleit (Knowlton School) and collaborators are seeking to hire a Research Senior Technician (Research Technician 3) to assist with data collection for a social science/public policy/city and regional planning research project. The project is seeking to understand what attributes predict success in a housing mobility program called Families Flourish.

Families Flourish (https://familiesflourish.org/) is a 3-year program where low-income parents and their children move from a low-opportunity neighborhood to a high opportunity neighborhood. They engage in individualized coaching and workshops, focused on financial stability, housing stability, education and employment, and health and wellness. Preliminary results show that participants increased their incomes by 58%, or $17,000 on average.

The question is, who is likely to succeed in the program? What attributes support a parent and children moving to a new neighborhood and being successful there? Literature suggests that stress reduction, self-efficacy, and grit are just a few of the characteristics necessary. Selecting participants consistently helps the program meet its goals and target its services.

The  Research Senior Technician will collect information from applications of over 1000 applicants to the program, assembling data to allow for the creation of a predictive model and rubric to aid in participant selection. In addition to collaborating directly with Family Flourish staff, the  Research Senior Technician will also work with the OSU research team to aid in data analysis and interpretation, develop preliminary results with feedback and advisement from the research team.

The skills the selected applicant will have are:

Attention to detail (required skill). Strong interpersonal skills, specifically a compassionate collaborator/member of the team (important for field work). Willingness to learn about Family’s Flourishes’ processes and data systems. Preliminary interest in and experience with data structuring and data analysis, including the analysis of structured and unstructured text data (we anticipate your skills in this area will be built upon and expanded, however, interest in and willingness to learn more about quantitative AND qualitative data analysis is required).

Desired Education:

Bachelors Degree in Social Science, Public Policy, City and Regional Planning or related degree.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.
