The Department of Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Research Scientist to conduct independent and collaborative research in theoretical atomic physics and astrophysics, with a primary emphasis on the calculation of atomic opacities and their application to astrophysical models.
The Department of Astronomy maintains strong research programs and institutional affiliations with major international collaborations, including the Dark Energy Survey (DES), Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS‑IV), Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), and the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). Faculty and researchers are also engaged in collaborations focused on stellar and quasar variability, supernovae, and other transient phenomena.

Minimum Education Required:
Doctoral degree in Physics
Required Qualifications:
PhD in physics, astronomy, or relevant field, with substantial professional experience (10+ years or more) in theoretical atomic physics and astrophysics, including work on atomic opacities in diverse astrophysical contexts. Applicants must demonstrate a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications, dissemination of research at scientific meetings, and collaborative research experience with internal and external partners.
