Research Scientist

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Research Scientist will support the company’s mission, vision, core values and endeavors by working in the assigned area of research under the tutelage of immediate Supervisor.  Will be responsible for assisting with the planning, design and execution of research studies and producing high-quality and accurate research reports and/or publications as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing professional expertise; applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

  • Normally receives general work instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.  Work is reviewed for soundness.

  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of a variety of factors.  Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Builds productive working relationships.

  • May provide assistance to junior-level staff with general tasks that require a better understanding of functions, as directed by immediate supervisor.

  • May refer to senior level staff for assistance with higher level problems that may arise.

  • Escalates issues to supervisor/manager for resolution, as deemed necessary.

  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

  • Plans, collaborates and conducts research and development activities for all phases of human subject research regarding a variety of products/projects.

  • Responsible for data collection, storage and maintenance of all data required.

  • Preparation of abstracts and posters/talks for scientific conferences as required

  • Participation in preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals as required

  • Prepares sample analysis and/or sample preparation for analysis /shipping.

  • Is accountable for the quality and integrity of the research that has been undertaken.

  • Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, presentations and quantitative analyses for presentation to appropriate personnel, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

  • Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of research studies and the resulting findings, respectively.

  • Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement.

  • Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature in the area of responsibility.

  • Must be able to interpret research findings in a logical and accurate manner.

  • Must have complete understanding of and the ability to apply established principles, theories and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines.

  • Assigned projects require familiarity with current scientific literature together with capability to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions within broadly defined practices and procedures.  Assignments are complex, require a high degree of independent initiative and decision making, and must be meaningful and challenging.

  • Assists with data analysis and explores techniques involved in biostatistical analytics.

  • Responsible for creating protocols and Informed Consent development.

  • Must work with consenting subjects in order to obtain data for projects.

  • Must be able to present findings at internal and external meetings

  • May participate in scientific conferences and make contributions to publications in medical/scientific journals.

  • Attendance at specific internal and external meetings is required.

  • Must be able to benefit from learning experiences in the Scientist’s major area of research.

  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.  

  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; PhD and/or MD preferred

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-5 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent directly related work experience
  • Must be fluent in the English language.
  • Knowledge of MS Office software
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis techniques and statistical software (R, SPSS, Systat, SAS)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good writing skills
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, tact and discretion
  • Ability to work both independently, as well as within a team environment

The rate of pay for this position will depend on the successful candidate’s work location and qualifications, including relevant education, work experience, skills, and competencies.

Annual Rate: $82,100 - $136,800 for NY, New York location
