The Opportunity:
As a Research Intern within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Washington State University in Spokane, Washington, working with Dr. Salah Ahmed, you will focus on research and data collection to support the study of mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases, including arthritis.

In this position, you will provide support to the Ahmed lab by conducting research and collection of data in support of the study of mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases including arthritis. You will accomplish this through complex laboratory/scientific experiments such as performing primary cell culture experiments, and dosing and handling of mice and rats.
In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining scientific instruments, purchasing laboratory supplies, performing laboratory administrative duties, and other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE), temporary, overtime eligible position.
This is a temporary position expected to end 12 months after the hire date. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Monthly Salary: $3,800.00 - $4,121.00 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing work with research, scientific or clinical research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacology or Pharmaceutical Sciences with preferred focus on biological sciences or applicable related sciences. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with common laboratory procedures, ordering, and standardization of protocols.
Experience with basic research design.
Experience with cell culture.
Experience in immunoblotting and techniques such as cell staining, tissue processing, and RT-PCR.
Relevant research in the field of arthritis or cardiovascular diseases, culture of primary cells of human or animal origin.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Computer proficiency related to research.
