The Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.
Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will be undertaking full research work and administrative duties during the term of employment with the following domains:
Lead research activities in Life Cycle Assessment and Carbon Footprint in at least one of the following domains:
(a) Gasification/incineration/pyrolysis – development of advanced thermal technologies for solid waste treatment (e.g., municipal solid waste, plastics, and sludge);
(b) Syngas purification – materials and processes for syngas upgrading (e.g., tar, chlorine, sulfur removal);
(c) Development of new materials from waste, e.g. slag in construction, nanomaterials for batteries and plastic additives.
(d) Heterogeneous catalysis, e.g. electrolyzers for CO2 reduction.
(e) CO2 capture with waste, e.g. carbonation using ashes
Work synergistically with PI and Co-PIs in experimental designs, conducting experiments perform data analysis and troubleshooting.
Provide training to research associate / assistant / student on the relevant skills for the proposed project.
Summarise the findings in this project and produce the final report and recommendations for the sustainable approaches contribute to promote Singapore as a zero-waste circular economy smart city hub.
Job Requirements:
PhD in Environmental Engineering; Chemistry; Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a relevant field.
Experience in Life Cycle Assessment (especially Gabi, openLCA), knowledge of GHG accounting protocols
Hands-on experience with process modelling and technology prototyping would be an advantage
Extensive knowledge in resource recovery, carbon footprint assessment and system engineering.
High motivation and strong responsibility for research and development.
Good written and communication skills.
Experience in carrying out independent research as well as to be able to work in a team.
Good publication record is considered as an advantage.
Good interpersonal skills and excellent teamwork awareness.
Productive, hard-working and dedicated to the completion of any task assigned.
