We are looking for a Research Associate in synthetic biology to harness engineered microorganisms for tackling sustainability challenges. The role will focus on developing biological systems and integrating them with photoelectrochemical processes to enable carbon-negative applications, including carbon fixation and biohydrogen or bioenergy production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply synthetic biology approaches to design and construct cells capable of light harvesting.

  • Engineer model microbial platforms with functional extracellular electron transfer pathways.

  • Perform experiments to validate the performance and functionality of engineered cells.

  • Develop and optimize photoelectrochemical systems integrated with microbial platforms.

  • Utilize the integrated systems for the synthesis of valuable bioproducts.

  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and intellectual property (IP) disclosures.

  • Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, documentation, and quality control.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in environmental science and engineering or related field

  • Familiarity with environmental biotechnology and other relevant net-zero technologies

  • Hands-on laboratory experience in relevant experimental research.

  • A record of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals in environmental engineering or related fields.

  • Good written and oral communication skills
