Research Associate (Polymer Materials Chemistry)

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is a leading academic unit in education and research on sustainable infrastructure, environmental engineering, and water and energy technologies. Aligned with this mission, the Ye Lab focuses on the design of advanced porous materials and membrane technologies for energy and environmental applications.

We are seeking a Research Associate to support the development and scale-up of polymer materials for membrane-based technologies. The role focuses on polymer synthesis, materials processing, membrane fabrication and laboratory capability building, contributing to high-impact research aligned with NTU’s mission in sustainable energy and environmental solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on polymer materials design, synthesis, and scale-up for membrane-based applications.

  • Develop and optimise polymer synthesis and materials processing methods and laboratory protocols.

  • Perform material screening and scalable synthesis to support downstream membrane and electrochemical evaluation.

  • Analyse data and prepare high-quality reports, publications and presentations.

  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners locally and internationally.

  • Assist in supervising and training undergraduate and postgraduate students.

  • Support laboratory operations, including inventory management, equipment setup and safety compliance.

Job Requirements:

  • Master degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 0–2 years of hands-on research experience in polymer synthesis, materials chemistry or processing, and membrane-related research.

  • Familiarity with chemical laboratory practices, including SOPs, safety regulations, and proper experimental documentation.

  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to analyse data and contribute to reports, publications, and presentations.

  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.

  • Experience in student supervision or collaborative research is desirable.
