The laboratory of Dr. Song studies how immune cells communicate and coordinate within the tumor microenvironment, and how these interactions shape responses to immunotherapy. Our research integrates molecular immunology, high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, in vivo cancer models, and translational human sample analysis to uncover new biological principles and identify therapeutic strategies for durable cancer control. The Song Lab is seeking a Research Associate to provide support for this research. The Research Associate 1 will perform the following:

  • Participate in planning and design of research projects. Execute and manage research projects using molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, tissue culture, PCR and flow cytometry; prepares solutions and culture media; collects, sorts and processes tissue and blood samples. Maintain experimental animal colonies and perform animal experiments. Participate in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques. Perform critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken. Assist in the preparation of research grant proposals, research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents.
  • Monitor and enforce laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
  • Train research staff; manages daily operations of the laboratory.
  • Oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and monitor expenses.
  • Oversee and coordinate periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.

Education

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate biological/health science or equivalent experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required
  • 1 year of relevant experience in a biological/health science research capacity is required

The Song Lab is a part of the OSUCCC – James Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO). The PIIO is a comprehensive bench-to-bedside research initiative focused on harnessing the body’s immune system to fight cancer at all levels —from prevention to treatment and survivorship.
