Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications.

We are looking for a Research Associate to work on biomass waste pretreatment. The role will focus on optimize current process and develop new process for pretreatment of biomass waste, as well as detailed characterization of raw biomass waste, product, byproducts etc.
Key Responsibilities:
Characterization of raw biomass including major components and contaminations
Optimization of current process to achieve high yield of product
Development of new processes to achieve high yield of product
Characterization of products and byproducts
Develop process to remove byproducts and contamination
Monthly reporting and meetings with ExxonMobil managers
Job Requirements:
Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field
At least 2 years of relevant experiences / technical hands-on experience in biomass
Familiarity with characterization of organic and inorganic materials
Proficiency in performing hydrothermal reactions, and operating common chemical characterization tools
Competent in reporting and communication
