The Research Assistant will lead outreach, coordination, training, and data collection efforts for an NIH-funded, multi-site clinical trial evaluating a resilience training program for first responders. This position involves direct engagement with fire departments and agencies across the state, delivering assessments and training modules in operational environments. The role contributes to high-impact field research aimed at improving mental health and wellness outcomes for firefighters, offering hands-on experience in field-based research, training delivery, data management, and cross-agency collaboration, as well as exposure to multi-site clinical trial operations.
Opportunities to Contribute
Coordinates statewide scheduling and logistics for field visits, ensuring positive engagement with fire departments and first responder units.
Assists in delivering training and intervention programs tailored to the needs of first responders.
Maintains fidelity to training and assessment protocols.
Administers standardized assessments and oversees accurate collection, entry, cleaning, and secure storage of study data from field visits.
Conducts statistical analyses for manuscripts, presentations, and reports while ensuring data integrity and compliance with study protocols and confidentiality standards.
Oversees daily study operations and facilitates collaboration across multi-site teams to ensure adherence to timelines and deliverables.
Leads weekly research meetings and provides supervision, training, and mentorship to volunteer research assistants and staff.
Prepares and manages IRB applications, amendments, annual renewals, and regulatory correspondence to ensure consistency across study sites.
Ensures full compliance with NIH, University, and IRB guidelines for ethical research conduct and regulatory standards.
Travels independently to field sites and manages purchasing, supply tracking, and administrative documentation to support project operations.
Qualifications
B.S. in Psychology or closely related field.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:
Experience as a volunteer or career first responder of military service member.
Experience working with first responders or in community-based settings.
Experience with trauma-informed research, practice, and/or behavioral health assessments.
Available for frequent in-state travel and flexible work hours.
Experience using REDCap (or related software) for data entry, management, and reporting.
Experience preparing, submitting, and maintaining IRB applications and regulatory documentation.
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Strong initiative and problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to evolving project needs.
Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
Proficiency with data management and reporting platforms.
Management of data and communications with attention to detail and accuracy.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
