Your role

The appointed individual will support the delivery of the Heat Adaptation for the Mekong Region (HAMR) project by assisting with research, coordination, and project implementation activities. Working closely with the project team, the role will contribute to data collection and analysis, support the application of heat modelling outputs, assist with stakeholder engagement, and help prepare project documentation and research outputs to ensure timely and effective delivery of project objectives.

About the project

The Heat Adaptation for the Mekong Region (HAMR) project focuses on improving understanding of urban heat phenomena and their impacts on localised communities across the Mekong region. Using advanced heat modelling techniques, the project assesses urban heat risks and identifies tailored mitigation strategies. The research aims to generate evidence to inform inclusive and climate-resilient urban policies and provide practical, equitable, and actionable recommendations for city governments, urban planners, and policymakers.

Reports to: Research Fellow Coordinator, TBS

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct laboratory/field work/research in the area under the supervision of the Line Manager

  • Conduct academic literature reviews and database searches

  • Assist with the design of data collection, scientific tests or interview regime.

  • Ensure data collection, storage and preliminary analysis are following the research protocols as stipulated.

  • Conduct, record, and transcribe interviews in English or Vietnamese, with translation if required

  • Prepare and manage presentations, reports, research proposal, articles and publications

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including research ethics, equity and health & safety, and laboratory standards and exhibit good practice with same.

  • Manage the coordination of meetings between researchers and participating external administrators as required.

  • Develop internal and external contacts to further knowledge and form collaborative networks

  • Support day-to-day research activity and/or coordinate activities with the Line Manager and relevant stakeholders

  • Prepare reports related to research activity outcomes

Key Selection Criteria

  • University graduate degree (Master's or doctorate) in Arts, Science, Social Science, or Business.

  • Demonstrated research experience in primary or secondary data collection.

  • Ability to use NVivo, SPSS, Stata, and R is preferred.

  • Knowledge of literature review databases.

  • Ability to conduct analytical research, analyse, interpret, evaluate, coordinate as well as report resulting information.

  • Demonstrated ability to support research proposal preparation, research design in Arts, Science, Social Science or Business

  • Experience in preparing research reports and graphic presentations of data.

  • Problem-solving skills that assure detailed follow-up when required.

  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills with proven ability to prioritise multiple tasks, set and meet deadlines and give attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications.

  • Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues and cluster leads/members.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.

  • Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position and RMIT Values

English Proficiency

English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS General 6.0 (or equivalent CEST 160).
