Summary:

The Department of Cancer Prevention and Control is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to support a population-based randomized study evaluating a home-based Respiratory Muscle Training (RMT) intervention among lung cancer survivors. Participants are identified through the New York State Cancer Registry, and the study examines the effects of RMT on symptom management (dyspnea, fatigue), physical function, quality of life, and biomarkers relevant to lung cancer prognosis.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, experience working directly with research participants or patients, and an interest in gaining experience in clinical cancer research. This position is well-suited for individuals planning to pursue careers in medicine or biomedical sciences.

Responsibilities include assisting with participant recruitment and enrollment, conducting virtual study visits, collecting study data, and supporting delivery of a home-based intervention.

This role requires strong communication, organization, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations. The RA will also gain exposure to biospecimen coordination and multidisciplinary cancer research.

The pay range for this position is $40,191 - $51,646 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package. The listed pay range reflects the range of potential compensation for this role. The actual offer may vary based on qualifications, skills, and experience.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

1. Associate’s degree and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in data management; or
2. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in data management.

NOTE:
Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in biomedical or health-related field
  • Relevant coursework or experience in biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research
  • Experience working with patients, research participants, or in healthcare settings
  • Familiarity with human subjects research, IRB processes, or CITI/GCP training
  • Exposure to physiological data collection methods (e.g. functional or behavioral assessments)
  • Experience with data entry or research data systems (e.g. REDCap, ACCESS)
  • Experience supporting research in academic, clinical, or laboratory settings
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information clearly and work effectively with diverse populations
