As a Research Assistant on this team, you will interact with the Program Manager, Coordinators, Research Nurses and fellow Assistants, working together to propel projects forward, fulfill essential study-related tasks and document records. In this role, you will provide various patient care activities and services related to the ambulation, transfer and positioning of designated inpatients under the direction of the professional staff. This position is an excellent entrance into the world of exciting, innovative and life-changing research at Cleveland Clinic. This position is intended for a study being conducted at four hospitals (Hillcrest, Fairview, Main Campus and Marymount). This role's primary assignment will be at our Marymount and Fairview Hospital locations, but we are looking for individuals who are willing to float to the other hospitals as needed.

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. -- 4:30 p.m. and requires a 1–2 weekends per month work commitment.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist research team with research study related tasks. 

  • Assist with completion of protocol related activities. 

  • As delegated, attain and maintain clinical competencies, such as phlebotomy, vital signs, ECG, POC testing and other testing. 

  • Assist with the development and coordination of the research subject schedule in compliance with the research protocol. 

  • Assist with the collection, recording and maintenance of research study records. 

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of research tools, such as spreadsheets, questionnaires and/or brochures.  

  • Maintain study personnel certification records (License, CV, CITI). 

  • Correctly follows nurse/therapist instructions, utilizes proper body mechanics and attends to patient safety.

  • Report unusual observations to supervisor. 

  • Work with nurse/therapist to achieve optimal patient care/satisfaction by responding to nursing/therapy directions and physician orders.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma/GED and one year of experience in healthcare

  • Knowledge of medical terminology 

  • Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of computer-based skills, such as work processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or must obtain within 90 days of hire

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • One year of healthcare setting experience

  • Research experience 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Frequently requires lifting and turning patients, and in some locations, ability to move up to 50 pounds

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
