Research Assistant

Job Description:

The Research Assistant will perform essential supportive work for two funded projects in the Valdez lab. This individual will perform genotyping, behavioral tests, immunostaining, confocal microscopy imaging and date analysis of synapses, the spinal cord and muscles. This individual will also assist undergraduate students with experimental procedures and techniques to advance other projects in the Valdez lab.


This is a fixed-term, seasonal position with an end date of 5/14/2026.

Job Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, genetics, neuroscience or related field

  • Required: Undergraduate research experience and with previous experience working in a laboratory setting

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Relevant coursework and basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, and genetics is advantageous

  • Strong computer skills

  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills

  • Excellent written and communication skills

  • Ability to complete accurate records and follow detailed instructions

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite and competence in statistical analysis is desired

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers.
