Job Description Summary:

A research assistant position is available immediately in the NIH-funded group of Dr. Chad Slawson. The candidate selected for the position will work as part of a diverse research group, encompassing undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral level scientists, employing cellular, molecular biology, and biochemical approaches focusing on determining how the O-GlcNAc post-translational modification contributes to the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s disease. The technician will work on a number of projects in the lab as needs arise. Past technicians have been on multiple publications in from the lab.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform biochemical and cellular research employing biochemical approaches focusing on determining how O-GlcNAcylation controls mitochondrial function and response to reactive oxygen species.

  • Design and perform general lab experiments that include, but are not limited to tissue culture, mouse genotyping, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, and molecular biology.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: B.S. or higher in Biochemistry or related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work Experience: Interested applicants should have some research experience, preferably in either cellular biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
