The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) is a bilingual academic healthcare institution. We are a McGill research and teaching institute; delivering high-quality patient care, as part of the Neuroscience Mission of the McGill University Health Centre. In order to better understand and find new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, The Neuro has established an integrated ecosystem in which a number of R&D projects utilize patient-derived cells through a number of platforms, etc.
In the context of an exploratory project on Parkinson’s disease related to advancing iPSC-based models for study of neuro-immune aspects of the disease, the selected candidate, working in the laboratory of Professor Edward A. Fon, will, under the direction of the immediate supervisor, plan and execute laboratory cell culture of human induced-pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), perform immunofluorescence experiments, and help with the analysis of scRNAseq data. They will perform differentiation protocols for generation of microglia and microglia-organoid assembloids. Then perform immunofluorescence experiments to further characterize these cultures. They will act as resource person for the supply of human iPSCs and microglia for subsequent analysis necessary to the project. They will contribute to writing a manuscript describing microglia-organoid assembloids for the study of Parkinson’s disease.
