Position Summary:

  • Execute and optimize experimental designs in green and sustainable catalysis and chemical synthesis, specifically focusing on the integration of continuous-flow synthesis.
  • Systematically investigate the development, functionalization, and application of underexplored boronic acids and their derivatives.
  • Design, execute, and optimize continuous-flow reactions to improve efficiency, safety, scalability, and sustainability.
  • Validate and refine new synthetic methodologies, evaluating their applicability to various chemical transformations.
  • Perform experimental work using continuous-flow reactor systems, including reaction setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare, isolate, and characterize reaction intermediates and products using appropriate analytical techniques.
  • Interpret complex analytical data and synthesize findings to contribute to research discussions and the preparation of technical reports for the Principal Investigator.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records in accordance with laboratory best practices.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety, waste management, and sustainability protocols.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the research laboratory, including equipment upkeep and general lab organization.


Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet project timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; effective communication with the PI, trainees, and collaborators.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety and compliance, including chemical handling, storage/segregation, and hazardous waste procedures; WHMIS training (completed or willingness to complete upon hire).

Experience and Education:

  • PhD in Chemistry
  • Strong hands-on experience in organic synthesis, including reaction setup, monitoring, work-up, purification (e.g., chromatography), and product isolation.
  • Experience supporting chemical analysis and characterization workflows, including GC-MS and HPLC (sample preparation, method execution, basic troubleshooting, and data organization).
  • Experience with air-/moisture-sensitive techniques using a glovebox (and/or Schlenk techniques, if applicable).
  • Experience with flow chemistry (e.g., assembling/operating flow setups, monitoring runs, basic maintenance, and documentation).
