As a Research AHT, you will monitor and support the health and well-being of animals in the Biological Research Unit at Cleveland Clinic utilized in foundational pre-clinical trials and studies. In this role, you will ensure they have adequate supplies, food and clean enclosures to prevent illness and discomfort while directly supporting foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world. Ultimately, your efforts are crucial in facilitating the Cleveland Clinic mission to enhance the global healthcare field.
A caregiver in this position works day/evening/night/weekend shifts from 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with 1 holiday per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Monitor and care for the health and well-being of animals housed in the Biological Resources Unit (BRU).
Perform daily health observations and monitor the condition of research animals.
Provide custodial care, fresh feed and fresh water for animals according to the standard operating procedures.
Write up health reports for the vet team.
Receive animal shipments and complete required documentation.
Maintain and adequately supply the areas used for technical procedures.
Transport supplies, equipment and animals to and from various locations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Completion of on-the-job training to properly handle all species of animals housed within the BRU
Flexibility 24/7, 365-days a year
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience in the custodial care of animals
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transport equipment and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.
Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.
May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
