THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity for a Research and Teaching Fellow in Bioanalysis exists in the School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University, as part of an NHMRC Leadership Fellowship program, while also contributing to our school’s teaching excellence.  We are seeking a qualified Research and Teaching Fellow to join a team with an international reputation for producing high quality research outcomes in the area of innovative nanotechnology-based cancer diagnosis tools using liquid biopsy.

The scope of this project is broad, which involves developing biosensing of disease biomarkers and cancer molecular profiling. The research areas include advancing the biosensing technology using multifunctional nanomaterials and developing nano-liquid biopsy for cancer diagnostics and personalised medicine.

The successful candidate will report to Professor Yuling Wang, and will undertake the following responsibilities as a Research and Teaching Fellow:

  • Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;

  • Work in supportive, collegiate team environment;

  • Build your skills in extracellular vesicles analysis, biosensing, nanomaterials and applied spectroscopy;

  • Undertake independent research in the area of analytical chemistry, extracellular vesicles analysis and nanobiotechnology;

  • Prepare, write, and submit high-quality research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals;

  • Co-supervise students working on individual or group of projects at undergraduate or graduate level;

  • Collaborate with senior staff to actively seek and secure external funding, prepare and submit research proposals to external funding bodies as appropriate;

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaborations within the University and with external partners, including industry where appropriate;

  • Actively contribute to the academic service of the School/Faculty, including participation in committees;

  • Take responsibility for health and safety in the workplace;

The School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University was established on 1 January 2022 through the amalgamation of the Departments of Biological Sciences, Molecular Sciences, and Earth and Environmental Sciences. The School is the largest in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and is a vibrant community of educators, researchers and students working across a wide range of biological, biomolecular, biomedical, chemical, environmental and geoscience disciplines.

How to Apply

To be considered for this position, applicants must address the selection criteria below, and attach your CV (including a list of three referees), a statement of research interests and achievements.

Essential

  • A PhD in analytical chemistry, bioanalysis, biosensors or a related discipline and/or relevant experience with combination of qualifications and skill;

  • Evidence of research excellence and independence in one or more relevant areas, demonstrated through high-quality peer-reviewed publications;

  • Experience in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level;

  • Ability to assist in the supervision of students working on research projects;

  • Experience in project leadership including in an interdisciplinary/ multidisciplinary team, with the ability to design, conduct and analyse research projects;

  • High quality interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to effectively engage with internal and external collaborators

  • Ability for analytical thinking and independent problem solving.

  • Knowledge of WHS principles, commitment to attend relevant training.

Desirable

  • Experience in cell biology and biotechnology

  • Experience in nanomaterials and extracellular vesical research
