Job Description
Wood Mackenzie is seeking a talented and driven Research Analyst to join the Oil Production Forecasting team within our growing Commodity Trading Analytics (CTA) group. This is a great opportunity for an entrepreneurial and innovative individual who is passionate about energy markets, data, and forecasting and who wants to help develop and grow an exciting product line.
The forecasting team operates within the broader CTA oils group, providing near-real-time insights, analytics, modeling, and supply forecasting expertise. You will support clients, prospects, and internal stakeholders, gaining deep exposure to petroleum research and global supply dynamics.
Maintain and update country-level oil supply forecasts at the field and basin level.
Process satellite imagery and other signals to create market-relevant indicators.
Support the development and improvement of Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary production forecasting models.
Conduct data collection, verification, and quality assessment, often dealing with complex or hard-to-obtain datasets.
Blend quantitative data with real-time news flow to enhance analytical outputs and market insights.
Contribute to customer-facing reports and publications on supply trends and market shifts.
Support and provide backup coverage for the U.S. Crude Oil Production Report, Canadian Crude Oil Production Report, and the High Frequency Oil Production Monitor.
Learn and utilise Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary datasets to better understand market interactions and supply movements.
You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
You enjoy synthesizing both quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources quickly and efficiently, often incorporating insights from prior events.
You are naturally sceptical of external data sources and adept at distinguishing useful signals from noise.
You have experience forecasting hydrocarbon supply and are familiar with oil market supply and demand fundamentals.
You show initiative by researching and solving new problems with minimal guidance.
You can learn established processes carefully, with strong attention to detail, while also identifying ways to improve and evolve current workflows.
You are a super-user of Excel and have basic experience working with databases.
You are interested in a role that balances quantitative analysis with writing tasks.
You are fascinated by current events, global markets, and economic trends.
