Reporting, Accounting & Tax Manager (CALA Region)

Who We're Looking For

The Reporting, Accounting & Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting, tax, and reporting activities for Costa Rica and the CALA region. This role ensures compliance with local and group accounting standards, statutory requirements, and tax regulations, and acts as a key liaison with internal teams and external service providers. The position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

CALA Accounting & Tax (Costa Rica and CALA Region):

  • Oversee all accounting activities for Costa Rica and CALA entities, including maintaining local books, reconciliations, month-end close, payroll accounting review, cash account entries, and financial statement preparation in compliance with local regulations.
  • Manage Free Trade Zone regime activities: monthly/annual reporting, audit visits, asset controls, compliance with PROCOMER, and coordination with Facilities and HR for headcount and fixed assets.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Free Trade Zone queries, employee education, and implementing new procedures in coordination with local auditors and external counsel.
  • Coordinate and review statutory tax filings for CALA entities, including Costa Rica-specific forms (D101 Income Tax, D151 Suppliers, D152 Payroll Income Tax, monthly VAT, D103 INS/CCSS); ensure timely and accurate submission.
  • Prepare and file intercompany invoices and documentation for transfer pricing purposes; oversee intercompany reconciliations and transfer pricing documentation, including support of global transfer pricing initiatives and reporting.
  • Manage relationships and coordinate professional service providers in CALA, including external accounting firms, legal counsel, and tax advisors; ensure timely and accurate delivery of services and compliance.
  • Lead internal and external audits for CALA, respond to audit queries, and support statutory audit cycles.
  • Coordinate with Group Treasury to ensure adequate funding of CALA entities to meet expected payment obligations and operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with local archiving requirements and maintain robust internal controls and risk management practices.
  • Support global initiatives in tax policies, processes, and controls; ensure compliance with local and international standards.
  • Support consolidation of financial data and compliance with global accounting and standardization initiatives.
  • Share best practices across the organization and support the implementation of new tax technologies.

General & Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Develop and update process documentation; drive process improvement and automation for greater efficiency and compliance.
  • Provide expert guidance on new policies and regulations issued by governments.
  • Support Costa Rica Management team and participate in regular local, tax, and accounting meetings.

Experience, Education, and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, tax, or related roles, ideally within a multinational and/or shared services environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Costa Rican GAAP, IFRS, and local tax regulations.
  • Experience managing Free Trade Zone compliance and reporting (PROCOMER).
  • Fluent in Spanish and English; Portuguese is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating with external accounting firms, auditors, and tax advisors.
  • Strong technical skills with accounting systems; experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading or supporting statutory and tax audits.
  • High degree of integrity and ability to manage confidential information.
