Summary:
A versatile general assignment journalist to work full-time covering Chicago and the suburbs. Needs to be an aggressive reporter and skilled writer who can juggle breaking news assignments with compelling enterprise and trend pieces that are important to a local audience. Ability to speak a second language or a familiarity or interest in covering immigration issues is a plus.
What you will do:
Provide versatile general assignment reporting for the Chicago Tribune
Respond to breaking news, including immigration, public safety, public appearances, and news conferences
Craft compelling feature and enterprise stories that resonate with the interests of the Chicagoland community, including both the city and suburbs
Consistently deliver high-quality work under the pressure of tight, fast-moving news cycles
Work a shift consisting of regular daytime hours Tuesday through Friday, and afternoon and evening hours on Saturday

Demonstrated success in proactively identifying and cultivating sources
Strong planning and communication skills to keep editors posted on the progress of stories
A collaborative, creative, and collegial approach, with high energy and doggedness in pursuit of the story
Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly wage is $26.44. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility). Conditions of Employment:

Travel – This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, in-person training sessions and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
