Reporter, Dow Jones Newswires EMEA (London or Barcelona)
Dow Jones seeks a reporter to join its EMEA team providing real-time news and analysis for financial professionals.
The successful candidate will be proficient at identifying important, forward-looking detail from a fast-moving stream of information and turning it into informative, punchy headlines and short articles in English. A major part of the role is also to quickly analyze news and the signals it provides to investors. Reporters are expected to break news and to seek out interviews with newsmakers across their beat.
For the current opening, the focus would be U.K. and European banks and financial firms, with the post located in either our Barcelona or London news hub.
Accuracy, speed, excellent news judgment and a close eye for detail are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume news environment where teamwork and communication skills will be hugely important. Reporters need to have the flexibility to jump quickly between subjects and tasks while keeping a calm, clear head.
Excellent written English is essential. A strong grasp of at least one other European language aside from Spanish is highly desirable.
Ideally, candidates have some knowledge of what to look for in corporate earnings statements and releases, some familiarity with economic data, financial markets and regulation, with a demonstrable interest in these areas and in news in general.
This is an exciting opportunity to write market-leading breaking news for Dow Jones, the global authority in business journalism and publisher of The Wall Street Journal.
You will:
Exercise exceptional news judgment to identify news of importance to professionals, with ability to efficiently prioritize and summarize into smart briefs and subsequent analysis of what the news means for investors.
Recognize and respond to the core audiences for Dow Jones Newswires, and their needs and expectations.
Collaborate with reporters and editors from other groups, including Dow Jones Newswires, WSJ and other colleagues in other bureaus and regions.
