Job Summary
Participates in planning and organizing activities, providing functional leadership across business process analysis, requirements definition, acquisition, configuration, implementation, and lifecycle management of complex computer systems. Delivers expert-level functional support for assigned systems, including their associated business and operational environments, processes, and workflows. Contributes strategic input and leadership to the development of application and infrastructure lifecycle strategies and roadmaps.
As a Senior Systems Test Lead, provides expert guidance and services for the testing of systems developed by NAV CANADA Engineering. Ensures that systems meet required levels of integrity and quality to support safe operational deployment. Responsibilities include the assessment and validation of critical systems that may impact the safety of Canadian and international air navigation systems.

Key Accountabilities:
- Leads and contributes to planning activities, delivering clear estimates and timelines.
- Provides functional leadership and strategic recommendations to support the development and implementation of NAV CANADA policies, technical procedures, service levels, and tools.
- Under managerial direction, may lead complex or multiple concurrent projects, including cross-functional initiatives.
- Acts as a technical and functional mentor, supporting the growth of junior team members and recommending appropriate training opportunities.
- Demonstrates leadership by example, promoting adherence to Safety and Quality processes within the Technology organization.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and help define effective test strategies.
- Designs, develops, and executes comprehensive test plans for the RTM system to ensure optimal coverage.
- Creates and maintains test cases derived from business requirements, use cases, and user stories.
- Conducts thorough functional and regression testing, producing detailed test reports outlining findings, progress, and potential risks.
- Performs Level 2 support activities as required.
Job Requirements
Education:
- Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, MBA, Aviation, or an equivalent combination of education, relevant experience, and training.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience leading and contributing to complex systems requirements management, business process development, and data and systems analysis, development.
- Extensive experience with technology frameworks and processes, including Change Management, Quality Management, and Project Management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft tools such as Office 365, SharePoint, Visual Studio, Teams, and Azure DevOps.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating and leading multidisciplinary teams and workshops.
- Minimum of 5 + years of experience in system testing , with strong knowledge of test engineering principles and validation of large-scale software and hardware projects.
- Hands-on experience with test automation tools and frameworks.
- Experience developing and maintaining test harnesses or automated testing frameworks.
- Working knowledge of scripting languages, including Python.
Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies, practices, tools, and techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of modern software development lifecycle processes, including Agile, Scrum, and DevOps practices.
- Awareness of industry trends, along with business policies, processes, workflows, and systems within the area of specialization.
- Knowledge of Certification Testing processes for mission-critical applications.
- Solid understanding of software development and testing processes, from initial design through formal testing and acceptance.
- Familiarity with tools for requirements management, issue tracking, configuration management, and test management (e.g., IBM Jazz).
Abilities:
- Strong ability to identify, analyze, and define business processes and requirements, and determine optimal solutions within constraints of time, budget, and resources.
- Proficient in testing, identifying and analyzing system deficiencies, and recommending corrective actions and process improvements.
- Effective in leading professional discussions with internal stakeholders, management, and external partners to ensure critical considerations are addressed.
- Skilled in producing clear, concise, and well-structured documentation for diverse audiences, including colleagues, stakeholders, and customers.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues and implement practical, effective solutions.
- Ability to develop comprehensive test plans.
- Capable of overseeing testing activities, identifying coverage gaps, and ensuring alignment between requirements, test cases, and procedures developed by the team.

Working conditions:
- Occasional Travel required
- This position is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 days per week on site at the Ottawa Technical Systems Centre.
