Position Purpose: 

The occupational therapist assistant assists the occupational therapist in carrying out a patient’s established plan of care. 

 

What the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant ( COTA ) Will Do:  

  • Accountable for the application of a written treatment plan and administers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals.   

  • Utilizes a variety of modalities as appropriate to enhance patient progress. Instructs patients in varying programs appropriate to enhance performance and cultivate progress toward occupational therapy goals.   

  • Communicates with and educates patients and their families regarding plan of care, home equipment recommendations, considerations for additional rehab, discharge planning, home exercise program, self-administered treatments, and family assistance. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be a graduate from an occupational therapy assisting program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).  

  • Required: Associate’s Degree 

  • State of Michigan Occupational Therapist Assistant License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire date. 

  • American Heart Association BLS or equivalent.
