Reliability Technician

Location: Burlington,ON. (Onsite – 5 days in office)

Job Summary:

The Senior Reliability Technician performs electronic/electrical testing to maximize production while assuring product quality standards are met according to JEDEC standards and customer’s expectations. The main responsibility of the senior reliability technician is to support the reliability assurance process in providing the qualification information of electronic components under environmental stress conditions.  They test and troubleshoot products to ensure they meet qualification and reliability test plans and collaborate directly with failure analysis teams to understand failures when they occur.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ATE (Automatic Test Equipment) testing of reliability samples, including lead cleaning and reconditioning as needed to ensure reliable test socket contact.

  • Perform open/short circuit testing and I-V analysis using a Curve Tracer to identify and validate continuity and contact failures in reliability samples.

  • Support Reliability Engineers with sample handling and logistics, including organizing, packing, and coordinating shipments of reliability samples.

  • Coordinate sample collection for Reliability Monitoring activities covering Fluorine on bond pad, barrier metal cracking, delamination, and die shear testing. Execute required physical Failure Analysis (FA) steps under the guidance of FA Engineers.

  • Execute Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA) and Construction Analysis as part of reliability qualification and monitoring activities, and prepare formal FA reports summarizing findings. FA Engineer guidance will be provided.

  • Perform Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM) on reliability samples to support delamination monitoring activities, under the direction of FA Engineers.

  • Carry out physical FA laboratory tasks including optical inspection, X-ray imaging, SAM, mechanical cross-sectioning and polishing, chemical decapsulation/deprocessing, and SEM/EDX (Scanning Electron Microscopy / Energy Dispersive X-ray) analysis in support of DPA, construction analysis, and reliability monitoring programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field. Equivalent hands-on technical experience in a semiconductor or electronics lab environment will be considered.

  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside standard business hours to support time-sensitive reliability testing and lab activities, including sample shipments or equipment-driven schedules.

  • Proficient in MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

  • Prior hands-on experience with any of the following is an asset, though not required:

    • Test & Measurement: ATE tester, curve tracer

    • Lab & Assembly: Soldering station, mechanical cross-sectioning, chemical decapsulation/deprocessing

    • Imaging & Analysis: Metallurgical optical microscope, X-ray, SAM, SEM, EDX"

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $55,000 - $62,000.  There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base salary, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education and experience, as well as job location and the value of other elements of an employee’s total compensation package.
