We are seeking an experienced Release Manager/Release Train Engineer to lead delivery for a mission-critical DoD mission planning software system. In this role, you will apply systems thinking, Agile program leadership, and organizational acumen to orchestrate multiple teams of software and infrastructure engineers — driving predictable, incremental delivery that meets customer commitments and mission objectives.

This is a leadership role at the intersection of systems engineering, Agile execution, and program management. You will be the primary decision authority for release strategy, scope governance, and cross-team integration across a complex, multi-disciplinary program.

Responsibilities:

  • Own product strategy, roadmap, and scope governance, making value-based trade-off decisions that align customer objectives, contractual commitments, and program constraints

  • Lead Agile program execution by facilitating PI Planning, backlog prioritization, release planning, and cross-team synchronization ceremonies to ensure aligned and predictable delivery

  • Establish and govern program-level release strategy, integration sequencing, and deployment planning across multi-disciplinary teams and external partners

  • Serve as the primary decision authority for scope alignment and dependency management, proactively resolving cross-thread conflicts that impact schedule, integration, or customer commitments

  • Drive program execution transparency through clear communication of priorities, risks, and delivery health to engineering leadership and senior stakeholders

  • Implement and continuously improve release and Agile flow management practices using delivery metrics to increase predictability, reduce late-stage integration churn, and strengthen stakeholder confidence

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess an active Secret security clearance

  • Willing to be submitted for and obtain a Top Secret security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related STEM field

  • 8+ years of experience in software release management, systems engineering, or a closely related program leadership role

  • engineering principles including requirements management, system architecture, integration, verification, and validation

  • Proven ability to lead Agile release trains or multi-team Agile programs, including facilitation of PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and Inspect & Adapt ceremonies

  • Experience defining and governing release processes including branching strategies, build pipelines, and deployment planning in a multi-team environment

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate technical delivery status into program-level risk and decision framing for senior leadership

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to dependency management and risk mitigation

Desired Qualifications

  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) certification — strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and practices (e.g., Cameo, SysML, SysML v2)

  • Experience with CI/CD toolchains (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins) and version control workflows in a DevSecOps environment

  • Familiarity with containerization and cloud platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure)

  • Understanding of software security principles and experience integrating security checks into the release pipeline (DevSecOps)

  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g., Python, Bash) to support pipeline visibility and tooling integrations

  • Experience on DoD programs with formal configuration management and CMMI or similar process frameworks
