The Vancouver Animal Emergency and Referral Centre is an established, cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary facility located in the heart of metro Vancouver offering Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Oncology and 24-hr Emergency care.
Our Oncology service is excited to welcome a dedicated Registered Veterinary Technologist, RVT to join our expanding team. You will play a key role in supporting our newly established service and have the opportunity to fully utilize your skills. Our RVTs are provided with the tools and resources needed to thrive while exploring a variety of passions within our state-of-the-art hospital. You will gain valuable experience through exposure to a wide range of specialty cases, with ample opportunities for continued learning and growth. This role will work closely with our medical oncology specialist to provide top-notch care to patients requiring this service. The successful candidate will possess exceptional patient care and technical skills, as well as a keen interest in building and maintaining relationships with pet parents.
Previous experience in a specialty role would be an asset but is not required
Placement of intravenous catheters & monitoring of patients during anesthesia or while sedated
Performing phlebotomy/venipuncture
Preparing slides for cytology & completing necessary lab-work submissions accurately
Accurately perform digital radiographs and your participation in learning hands-free procedures
Administering chemotherapy medications is an asset, however not required as training will be provided
Interacting consistently with both colleagues and pet parents
Keeping accurate patient records and an above average attention to detail
Registered Veterinary Technologist certified in (VTS-IM Oncology) or an RVT with 2 years of experience and a keen interest in specialty medicine
Strong communication skills and ability to work with a dynamic and diverse team
The ability to remain calm and adaptable under pressure, effectively managing stress while maintaining productivity and focus
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to carry out assignments independently
Positive outlook and enthusiasm for learning
High aptitude for digital equipment & veterinary software programs
Passionate about building relationships with pet-parents
Ability to work in fast paced environment
This position is full time, 40 hours per week
Shifts are 10 hours X 4 days per week - you only work 4 days a week! Great for work life balance.
The department is currently open Monday through Thursday each week.
